GulfCoast Vein and Laser Center offers a full range treatment options
for vein disease. During your
initial consultation, a personalized treatment
plan will be designed for you by experienced surgeons that you can
trust.
A
number of treatments exist for removing spider and varicose veins.
The method used depends on the veins affected and the severity of
the problem.
From the least invasive to the most invasive, here's a list of procedures,
most of which can be performed at the GulfCoast Vein and Laser Center:
Laser
Therapy
Designed to treat spider veins (veins up to 1.5 millimeters in diameter)
Procedure: Alight beam is pulsed onto the vein to seal it
off. The vein eventually dissolves. Recovery Time: None
Sclerotherapy
Injection Therapy
Designed to treat all spider veins and, when indicated, varicose veins.
Procedure: A sclerosing solution is injected into the vein,
collapsing it.
Recovery Time: Fast, but expect some bruising and you will
want to wear compression stockings to improve blood flow for at least one week.
Endovenous
Laser Therapy
Designed for large varicose veins
Procedure: Under local anesthetic, a tiny laser fiber is
threaded through the vein; laser pulses heat and then seals the
vein, which eventually dissolves.
Recovery Time: You are able to resume most activities within 2-3 days.
You will be required to walk frequently and wear compression stockings for two weeks.
You should expect bruising and will follow-up with the physician one week following the procedure.
Phlebectomy
Designed for large varicose veins
Procedure: Under local anesthetic, veins are removed via
tiny punctures through the skin.
Recovery Time: You are able to resume most activities
within 2-3 days. You will be required to walk frequently and wear compression stockings for two weeks.
You should expect bruising and will follow-up with the physician one week following the procedure.
Stripping
and Ligation
Designed for large varicose veins
Procedure: Usually performed as an outpatient under general
anesthetic or under local anesthetic. A thin wire is threaded through
the vein, and it is pulled out.
Recovery Time: A few days; you can resume full activity in
a few weeks.
