Frequently Asked Questions About Vein Disorders

How does blood circulate back into my heart after varicose vein treatment?

The backward flow of blood in varicose veins actually interfere with the normal venous return of blood. Removal of these areas of abnormal circulation actually improve circulation of blood in the treated area. It is this improvement in limb circulation that causes improvement of tiredness, heaviness in the limb, or other associated symptoms.

Does vein disease affect men and women equally?
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, nearly 50 to 55 percent of women and 40 to 45 percent of men in the United States suffer from some type of veinous problem. Varicose veins typically affect half of people 50 years and older.
Will insurance pay for my treatment?
Generally, insurance will cover the treatment of large vein disease/varicose veins. This is considered a medical problem by most insurance companies and they will pay according to whatever percentage the patient may be responsible for. Our office will make every effort to obtain the best insurance rates for you after we perform a full evaluation in our office.
What will happen if I leave my varicose veins alone?

When left untreated, varicose veins can result in unsightly sores, skin ulcers, blood clots, and even deep vein thrombosis (DVT). It’s best to treat varicose veins as soon as possible to avoid these costly and potentially life-threatening complications.

As unpleasant as they can be, varicose veins can be easily treated by our staff. If you have further questions about them or are currently looking for treatment, contact us today to schedule an appointment.

How long will it take before I see results?

When treatment is aimed at getting rid of symptoms, you should feel results between one week and one month after the procedure, depending on your disease, the degree of faulty valves, and what kind of treatment is needed. Cosmetic results may vary, depending on how extensively the abnormal veins have spread and how many treatments are required. This will be discussed in detail at the time of your appointment.
